My first introduction to the digital signage sector back in 2003, working with the WHSmith Travel and Retail digital signage network in the UK and USA.
The network consists of over 200 LCD and plasma screens, rack mounted media players, web browsers, interactive kiosks, exterior digital signposts, live train timetables and in-store POP (point of purchase) screens.
The network spanned over 60 stores in all major airports and railways stations throughout the UK, including Selfridges and AXA’s HQ, and all major USA airports and was the first of its kind in the UK.
My involvement in this project included:
• Helpdesk support
• Software development
• Project management
• Custom playback reporting
• Internal IT support
My key achievements included developing a digital signage network monitoring system which took up to date screen captures, health information and last login details for targeted support. This information was used to populate a web page front-end, and this was used on a daily basis to solely monitor the network. You can see a screen shot of my web based software on the right.
